Welcome to LHI.ie!

Leisure Horse Ireland prides itself in consistently providing an excellent, efficient and cost-effective service to its owners and breeders. All of our Studbooks and Equine Identification Register are DAFM and EU approved. All Studbook Passports do qualify for the national breeding schemes.

Where parentage is being recorded, all animals are DNA tested with Weatherbys Laboratory to prove the pedigree. We do not have a membership; therefore, we do not operate a two-tier pricing system.

Every Horse, Pony, Donkey and Mule in Ireland must be microchipped and have an equine passport to comply with legislation.

THE IRISH PIEBALD & SKEWBALD STUDBOOK (IPSA)

Coloured horses have gained popularity due to their unique and eye-catching appearance, with their striking and unique coat patterns, they are used in a variety of equestrian disciplines, just like horses of any other colour. The colour of the horse does not determine its ability or potential use; instead, it is the horse’s conformation, temperament, and training that determine its suitability for specific activities. There is no doubt about it, the coloured horse will be found participating in various disciplines such as show jumping, dressage, eventing, driving, and pony club activities. We have operated this DAFM and EU approved studbook for 20+ years and offer full or supplementary studbook registration.

THE WELSH PONY & COB STUDBOOK OF IRELAND (WPCS)

Bred in the mountains and wild regions of Wales for many generations, their acknowledged beauty does not mean they are merely a ‘pretty toy’ — centuries of ‘survival of the fittest’ has ensured their sound

EQUINE IDENTIFICATION REGISTER

This equine register (non-studbook – aka HSI “white book”) caters for all types of equines that do not qualify for a studbook passport or where breed type is unknown or not recorded at time of registration. Where pedigree / breed type is not recorded, it allows for the issuing of a passport with minimum fuss or delay and at a reduced cost. However, pedigree can still be recorded on this non studbook type of passport, detailing all recorded parentage and proven by DNA typing. However animals registered with Leisure Horse Ireland in the Identification Register do not qualify for any of the National Breeding Schemes or specific studbook classes, but this type of passport can also be upgraded at any time to a studbook passport, where qualifying conditions are met.
