THE IRISH PIEBALD & SKEWBALD STUDBOOK (IPSA)
NB: This studbook passporting service is available to Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland and EU residents only.
Coloured horses have gained popularity due to their unique and eye-catching appearance, with their striking and unique coat patterns, they are used in a variety of equestrian disciplines, just like horses of any other colour. The colour of the horse does not determine its ability or potential use; instead, it is the horse’s conformation, temperament, and training that determine its suitability for specific activities. There is no doubt about it, the coloured horse will be found participating in various disciplines such as show jumping, dressage, eventing, driving, and pony club activities. We have operated this DAFM and EU approved studbook for 20+ years and offer full or supplementary studbook registration.
THE WELSH PONY & COB STUDBOOK OF IRELAND (WPCSI)

Bred in the mountains and wild regions of Wales for many generations, their acknowledged beauty does not mean they are merely a ‘pretty toy’ — centuries of ‘survival of the fittest’ has ensured their sound
constitution, iron hard limbs and great intelligence which combined with the legendary Welsh temperament means these ponies feature in all aspects of equestrianism.

MORE INFORMATION
Complete and submit an online DNA Kit request form first.
To record pedigree on any LHI maintained studbook or register, a dna sample for testing must be provided and paid for on submission.
• A kit comprising the appropriate application paperwork and hair sample bag will be posted to you.
• Covering certificates are not necessary.
The hair sample bag is for vet use only and please observe the following:
• It is essential that hair samples are plucked, and NOT CUT, as it is the hair root follicles that contain the DNA and not the hair itself.
• A minimum of 40/60 strong hairs should be sampled from the mane or top of the tail.
• It is vital that the hair is completely clean and dry and that no sprays or detergents have been applied as this will damage the follicle and DNA cannot be obtained from the sample.
• When more than one animal is to be sampled, extreme care must be taken to avoid contamination of hair roots from one animal to another.
• Samples should be placed in the bag, sealed and sent immediately to LHI, avoiding prolonged exposure to direct heat or sunlight etc.
• Poor quality samples will require a repeat sample and additional fees may be incurred.
Other Considerations:
• Ensure diagram and written description are completed correctly by a qualified veterinary
surgeon and dated within 6 months of submission.
• Compliant type transponder implanted where none pre-existed.
• The fully completed application form with the correct amount of cleared payment.
• Applications requiring referral or return will incur additional processing / postage fees.
• Once submitted, an application cannot be cancelled. Unresolved issues lasting beyond
6 months may result in the application being voided and any fees paid will be forfeited.
• If it transpires an equine was registered previously and was not disclosed, no refund will issue. If an issued passport must later be cancelled, cancellation fees become payable by the applicant.
• Risk of loss and the cost of duplicate passports will be entirely borne by the applicant when
sent by standard post.
• Date of Birth (DD/MM/YYYY) must be confirmed by the identifying vet on the markings, if
only the year of birth is detailed, Jan 1st of that year will be the recorded.
• Under legislation a Passport must be applied for within 6 months of birth. Equines who
have not had their Identification Document issued within 12 months of birth, or submitted
so close to the date that the PIO is not allowed time to run necessary checks, will be
ineligible for slaughter for human consumption and will be classified accordingly in Section
II Part II of the Identification Document.
